Sophia Margaret MCNEILL (b. 27 Mar 1793 Windsor NS d, Dec 19,1875 Walton NS) married 1. Stephen TERHUNE (b.1789-d.1815 or 1817). Children

i. Daniel MacNeil TERHUNE (b 6 Sept 1810 (30) pg 21 in Walton d. 1881 ) marr 18 Nov 1833 in Walton by Rev. W. Temple to Hannah BROWN (b. 1814 d. 1884). Hannah's parents John Brown (1787-) and Lydia Sanford (1792-). John Brown's parents were John Brown (1756-) and Hannah Wilcox (1758-). Daniel obtained a grant of land, 150 acers, est of Whale Creek (30). The Rawdon Town Meeting book, Nov. 1847 mentions a Daniel TERHUNE Sr.(2) pg 29. In 1838 D. Terhune had a wife , 2 girls and one boy under 6. From 1865 to 1871 Daniel was a, miller and farmer in East Walton. In the 1881 census he and Hannah were living with son Thaddeus in St. Croix. The "Seafarers of the Atlantic Provinces" has Daniel as an owner of a schooner "Retrieve" and his occupation as a mariner. Perhaps this is Daniel Jr.?
-Stephen Terhune (bc 1833 Walton d. Nov 1870, age 37 Walton) was a farmer, married at the time he died. His parents are listed as Daniel and Hannah. (29) Married 1857 Emmaline/Emeline ROLF (b.4 Aug 1836 -d. May 1918) daughter of Thomas Rolf and Catherine Swinehamer. Stephen Terhune enlisted in the US army 26 Apr 1861 age 27 born Walton NS <1834>. Married,, occupation was butcher. Seems he was sick a lot and received an honourable discharge Aug 5 1861. Some dates in these documents don't agree. Civil War soldiers index ref 26.
-Francina A. Terhune (b.10 June1858 d. 15 June 1928) She (age 13) was living with Thomas (age 76) and Catherine (age 71) ROLF (1871 census). My assumption is that she was living with her grandparents after Stephen died and Emiline re-married. Francina Terhune is listed as a passenger to the USA on the Prince Arthur departing Yarmouth NS12 July 1903.

Emiline Terhune, age 32, daughter of Thomas & Catherine, married 2. 27 Aug 1869 Hants County, Hiram LANTZ age 23 (b. 19 May 1846- d. 22 Jun 1916) son of Jeremiah and Lucy Lantz. Note: this is a year before Stephen, her first husband, died. The marriage was also recorded in 1885 with the same people, parents, etc. except the ages of Emiline (48) widow, and Hiram (39) bachelor.?? 1901 Hants census has Lantz; John E head 27, b. 1 Feb 1874. Emeline mother 64 b. 4 Aug 1836. Hiram father 54 b. 19 May 1846. Philomena sister 30 b. 2 Dec 1870.

-Thaddeus Terhune (b. 1837 -d. aft 1881) Thaddeus Terhume (sic) was a witness at the 1895 wedding of niece Jessie McLellan and William HARVIE (29). Also recorded as living in Windsor in 1896 (McAlpine's Directory).

marr 1. Mary Elizabeth McLELLAN (b. 1840 Walton- d. 7 Aug. 1864 age 24, Walton) dau. of Allen and Elizabeth (Eliza) Parker McLELLAN bur. Parker Family Cemetery, Whale Creek, Walton, N.S. (2. , 29).

-Adelia Terhune (b. 1861 Walton NS-) married Dec 24 1884 Frank F. BROWN (bc. 1862 Walton, NS-), sailor, son of John BROWN (1816-1869) and Olivia (1818-1904). (29) John BROWN's sister, Hannah, marr. Adelia's Grandfather, Daniel Terhune. John & Hannah parents were John Brown (1787-) and Lydia Sanford (1792-). They had three children surname BROWN; Sophia (b 1886), Cassie Reed (b. 1888), Irvin H (b. 1890) (34) (13). She married 2. Dec 20 1895, West Gore, NS Robert BURTON ae 47, a blacksmith.

--Mary Janet Terhune (b.21 Jan.1863 St. Croix d. 1899 Brookville.?? bur. Parker Cem.) Married Mar. 23 1882 Robert BOIS (bc 1857 9 Mile River) son of John & Sarah Bois. From the marr. cert., her parents Thaddeus & Mary E. (not of much help, both Mary McLellan and Mary Brown had E. initial). From Hill Family Tree (11.) marr. 2. 10 Nov. 1894 in Brooklyn, NS Thomas C Seaman aka Thomas Clifford Simmons. BLOIS children: Dilbert (b. 1882), Sarah J (b. 1883), Hattie May (1885), Marsden (b. 1887), Minnie (sp?) D. (b. 1889), Oressa P. (b. 1891). SEAMAN/SIMMONDS children: Robert Roy (b. 1895), Thomas C. (b. 1896), William V. (b. 1898), Laura (b. 1902). There has been some confusion concerning Mary's Janet's mother. Mary McLellan died in 1864 and Thaddeus did not marry Mary Brown until 1866 so Mary Janet, born 1863, must be the daughter of Mary McLellan. The 1881 census is confusing as it has 3 Marys ae 18, 2 Adelias ae 20 and 2 Hannahs ae 67 & 68. MY interpretation of this: Hannah ae 67, Daniel ae 70, Mary and Adelia were living with Thaddeus, his 3rd wife Sara and their family in St Croix where they were first enumerated. Daniel died and Hannah moved back to Walton to live with her 3 youngest children; Harriet, Florence and William where she was again enumerated in the 1881 census at ae. 68 (she was also recorded as married). Mary also moved back to Walton and lived with the Steven Brown where she too was enumerated again in the census (POI: Michael Terhune ae 13 was the enumerator). Eventually Adelia ae 20 and Mary ae 18 moved to Noel and were living with John and Ida Henderson and family where they were, again, recorded in the 1881 census.

marr. 2. 7 June 1866 Mary Ester BROWN (b.1837- d. 3 June1867 at Ellerhouse, NS) dau of Joseph BROWN and Amy Emma NEIL Joseph's parents were Malcome BROWN and Sara (Love) CLARK(e). "Thaddens Trehune" (sic) was listed as a carpenter in the 1871 Ellershausen list.

--Smith TERHUNE (b. 1867 Walton-) marr. May 2 1888, in Windsor NS Bessie GREENOUGH (b. 28 April 1870 Kempt -). Her parents Daniel Greenough & Sarah Ann PHALEN. George H. Terhune was a witness. Smith was living in Elderhouse at the time. see T-Wharf Story. Smith was living with Bessie in Summerville with his father-in-law in 1891 and in Windsor in 1897. Mass. Marriage Records, 1840-1015 has Bessie Grenoough dof Daniel and Sarah, marr. 25 Oct 1894 George Thomas PELTIS (PETTIS) (b. 8 Aug 1866 Parsborh (sic) NS-) sof James T. and Sarah E. Peltis. It is recorded as the first marrage of both? George T. Pettis applied for US citizenship in 1904 (Mass. Naturalization Records)

marr. 3. 30 June 1869 Halifax, Sarah Jane HECKMAN (aka HACKMAN) (age 36 living in Newport) by Rev. E.M. Saundera. (17) Sarah J. TERHUNE (bc1833 d. Sept 14 1904 age 72 at Wentworth (24.)). 1871 census (28.) has the following family living in St Croix surname TREHUNE (sic): Sarah age 38

-Minnie Trehune (sic) age 12 b. Jan 161859 (considering her age, Minnie's last name was probably Hackman perhaps from a previous marriage of Sarah's) The1901 census has Sarah J TREHUNE (sic) b. Oct 3 1827 "mother-in-law", living with Joseph LEIGHTON age 44, Minnie L. age 42, Lena M Leighton age 15, Fredrick L. Leighton age 10

Married, at age 15, Martin/Morton FLINN (b. 24 Mar 1856-)(age 25) March 11 1882 at Hillsdale. Her parents were listed as George & Sarah and his as John and Mary FLINN. -Harriet TERHUNE bca 1854. Harriet ae17, William ae14 and Florence ae12 living with Daniel ae 60 & Hannah ae 57 in Walton 1971. She was 27 in 1881. Harriet, William 24 and Florence 23 (below) were living with Hannah 68 in Walton. Mother Hannah listed as married? Her age and location (Walton) would be correct for Daniel's Sr. wife. This could be the Harriett Ellen Terhune (b. May 15 1853, Hants-d. May 21 1923 Truro, NS) who marr ca 1883 Frederic GEDDES. I cannot find the marr. cert.

1891 census: Frederick Geddes ae 42 (bc 1849) machinist, married or widowed "?" "christian name ? gone?" "Christian name gone?" ae 7 (this wuld be Bessie L.) Fred B, ae 5, Evelyn A. ae 3, John H. ae 1. Perhaps they were separated?

1901 census: Harriet GEDDES age 47 b. April 15 1853 Widow. Truro NS. Children: Bessie L ae 17, Fredrick B. ae 15, Eveline A. ae 13 John H. ae 11, Raymond Y. ae 8.

Death Cert. 21 May, 1923. Harriet was a widow living in Truro, NS born May 15 1853. Father was Robert Terhune (born in Scotland) and Mother Harriet (C., E. or L. hard to read) Terhune (born Hants Cty.) Informant was Raymond Geddes of Truro NS, her son. The 1871 census has Robert Geddes ae 46, Frederic Geddes ae 22 (bc 1849) and Catherine Richards living in Halifax East. If this is Harriet's future husband, perhaps the informant got his grandfather's given names mixed up. I have no record of a Robert Terhune (bc 1820) living in NS at this time. The Scotland ref. may mean nothing as many census records have the Terhunes as Scottish. Perhaps he got the mother's name, Harriet/Hannah, wrong as well

-William F. TERHUNE (bc 1857-d. 18 Aug 1891 Bramber, Hants NS (26)) age 24 in 1881. William F. Terhune age 26 carpenter (b. Walton) married Oct 5 1882 Mary F. ROLFE age 26. CARD, Florence's parents Daniel & Hannah. Death Cert has Daniel Terhune as father and ------Parker born NS as the maiden name of her mother. Informant was Mrs W. M. Harvie, neice. (aka Jessie McLellan dof Allen & Sophia Terhune McLellan) Daniel Sr.'s wife was Hannah Brown.

-Daniel Terhune Jr. I have only one ref (2.) to Daniel Jr. but it seems resonable that he would be this Daniel's son. He is, however not mentioned in any census or other records that I have found.

ii Mary Ann Terhune Ref 30 pg 21 has (b 13 May 1812 d. aft 1881) dau of Stephen and Sophia marr 1st (her first cousin) John Grant Parker (b. 29 Jan 1796 NS d.15 Jul 1845 Walton, NS) son of William & Letitia Grant Parker. Nathan M. Field (1824-1899). NOTE: Elizabeth appears as Elizabeth Little in various documents (her death cert.) Her mother married John Little in 1849 so it seems she took the Little surname. This was not uncommon. Sarah E. PARKER (1843-1942) marr James PARKER (1836-1921). Annie Sophia Parker (1835-1914) marr. Stephen G. Parker (1835-1879), Mary Ann marr 2nd John LITTLE.
